Milpitas, CA – BKF has been selected by the City of Milpitas to provide Traffic Planning and Design Services for Abbott Avenue and McCandless Drive. The project focuses on improving safety and accessibility through traffic calming efforts.

The project will explore ways to reduce speeding on Abbott Avenue to create a safer environment for families walking to local schools, parks, and businesses. On McCandless Drive, the focus will be on improving pedestrian access, upgrading street lighting, and ensuring efficient traffic operations. Both corridors will be evaluated for opportunities to add stop signs, crosswalks, or other improvements that make it easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists to get around.

Planned evaluations and improvements will include:

• Traffic calming measures to reduce vehicle speeds
• All-way stops at key intersections
• Enhancing existing pedestrian crossings and potentially installing new crosswalks
• Lighting to improve nighttime visibility
• Traffic operations

As part of this effort, BKF will review existing conditions, collect community input, and work with City staff to develop thoughtful design options that reflect the needs of these neighborhoods. Meetings will be held to share ideas and gather feedback, helping ensure the project will support a safer and more connected Milpitas.
