DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

BKF Engineers is an inclusive employer that celebrates the vitality and unity of a diverse team. Our firm recognizes that our continued success and growth is dependent on a clear strategy to achieve workforce equity at all levels of the firm. Diversity, equity, and inclusion drive creativity, innovation, and achievement and we promote these principles in our work and in our communities. Guided by its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council with multiple Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), BKF is active in identifying activities and initiatives that promote and actively enhance our workforce diversity.

The Council and ERGs have the following objectives:

  • Promoting and sustaining a culture of inclusion at BKF Engineers and advancing a workplace environment that enjoys the benefits of inclusive workplace practices: high employee engagement, performance, collaboration, productivity, innovation, and retention.
  • Creating a forum for ERG members to support one another in planning and coordinating events that develop and sustain our core business objectives: Talent Optimization, Inclusive Workplace Cultures, Community Engagement, and Business Innovation.
  • Working in strategic partnership with the DEI Executive Sponsor and ERG Executive Advisors to align ERG activities and initiatives with broad business strategies to promote staff diversity, supplier diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in the work and services performed by BKF.

BKF collaborates with organizations that recognize and support women and underrepresented groups in civil engineering and land surveying, including the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers, Mexican American Engineers and Scientists, and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Through attending special events, leading presentations, and providing sponsorships and scholarships, BKF advocates for and promotes organizations that strengthen the inclusivity and diversity of the AEC industry and the communities we serve. The unique yet holistic perspective of our multifaceted team reflects our outreach through career fairs at universities with high diversity indices and partnership with Circa (formerly Local Job Network), a software-as-a- service system of connected job recruiting sites that specifically focuses on creating equity in the workforce.

Diversity is not only a fundamental component of our workforce; it is also the foundation of the industry partnerships that create successful and dynamic projects. BKF has developed a network of Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) sub consultants and vendors that we work with across multiple sectors, clients, and communities. Over the years, we have sub-contracted and procured millions of dollars in services from DBE firms, service providers, and suppliers. BKF continually seeks new opportunities to promote these industry partnerships.

BKF Engineers future success and continued growth requires a clear strategy to achieve workforce diversity at all levels of the firm. Our leadership and staff are proud to celebrate diversity and a culture of inclusion that values equity.
