Genentech’s Edge Café is located along the Bay Trail at the edge of the San Francisco Bay and serves as both a dining facility for employees and a space for indoor and outdoor communal gatherings. The project included approximately 6,400 square feet of total seating with 425 seats, with 60 percent of the space enclosed indoors. The café was designed as a zero waste to landfill facility and incorporates a variety of recreational amenities, including basketball, bocce ball, and shuffleboard courts, as well as a putting green. BKF provided civil engineering design services for the project, addressing multiple design challenges related to the site’s proximity to the Bay, coordination with BCDC requirements, and roadway and pedestrian circulation.
