BKF was selected by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), Division of Engineering, under a three-year statewide on-call contract to provide land surveying and mapping services supporting dams, reservoirs, large-diameter pipelines, aqueducts, levees, flood protection facilities, and associated infrastructure. Services are delivered through ranked task orders and include boundary and right-of-way surveys, land title review, topographic and aerial surveys, UAV and bathymetric surveys, utility mapping, construction staking, emergency response surveys, and GIS support across California.
Dam Safety Program – UAV LiDAR and Topographic Surveys
Under this contract, BKF supported DWR’s Dam Safety Program by providing geodetic control, UAV LiDAR, and orthophotography mapping services at seven dam and reservoir sites statewide. Work included aerial data collection, LiDAR and orthophoto processing, accuracy validation, and preparation of survey reports and documentation suitable for regulatory review and long‑term asset management.
Salton Sea Vegetation Project
BKF provided aerial surveying and mapping services for a DWR study area surrounding the Salton Sea, collecting airborne LiDAR and six‑band multispectral imagery to develop topographic mapping and orthophotos. All methods conformed to the USGS LiDAR Base Specification 2024, Revision A, achieving Quality Level 1 accuracy. Services included geodetic control, data acquisition, processing, and final survey documentation.
Statewide InSAR Ground Deformation Monitoring
BKF is supporting DWR’s implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) through statewide InSAR mapping and analysis. Satellite‑based interferometric synthetic aperture radar data is evaluated and compared against time-series measurements from continuously operating GPS stations to quantify ground surface elevation changes. Tasks include geodetic surveys, InSAR data processing, comparative CGPS analysis, and preparation of technical reports supporting subsidence monitoring and water resource decision‑making.
