BKF provided shell bead and modified shell analysis for the ongoing Elco Yard project in Redwood City, California. The cultural resource management process unearthed cultural resources associated with a precolonial archaeological deposit that is located within the project area.
BKF provided technical services to analyze the shell beads and modified shell artifacts. The shell beads and modified shell artifacts recovered from the current excavations were analyzed via industry standard methods and relevant typological classification systems. BKF employed a sampling strategy to assign artifact classes or types to all shell bead and modified shell specimens, while sampling a smaller percentage of the assemblage for the gathering of metrics such as perforation shape and size, bead length, width, thickness, etc. With respect to the sensitivity of the Elco Yard project to the Native American community, we conducted all analysis on site.
