Overview

Located along San Francisco’s southeastern waterfront, the Hunters Point Shipyard and Candlestick Point Phase 2 redevelopment represents one of the largest urban mixed‑use projects in the region. Spanning approximately 650 acres, the plan includes 10,500 new housing units, 3 million square feet of research and development space, more than 1 million square feet of commercial and office uses, a 220‑room hotel, and 330,000 square feet of dedicated artist space. The transformation also delivers all‑new infrastructure and significant shoreline improvements, creating a modern, resilient, and vibrant extension of the city.

The project includes more than 14 miles of new roadways, over 8 miles of shoreline upgrades, demolition of the former Candlestick Park Stadium, and the redevelopment of its surrounding parking lots. Additional components include the revitalization of the Alice Griffith public housing community and the reuse and redevelopment of the former naval base. Extensive geotechnical mitigation was required to address bay mud settlement concerns, ensuring long‑term stability and performance across the entire development. Together, these efforts lay the foundation for a sustainable, mixed‑income, and transit‑connected waterfront neighborhood that will serve San Francisco for generations to come.
