BKF provided comprehensive civil engineering and stormwater compliance services for a project designed as a calm, reflective retreat inspired by the artwork of Nathan Oliveira. The center’s purpose was to create a peaceful environment that offers respite from the intensity of daily life, supported by architecture and landscape features that encourage quiet contemplation throughout the day.
BKF’s work included a full topographic survey, preliminary site utility planning, preparation of estimated biotreatment areas for C.3 compliance, detailed construction documents, construction staking, and SWPPP documentation. The project incorporated numerous sustainable design elements, including skylights with motorized louvers that modulate natural light, as well as thick rammed‑earth walls constructed from soil excavated directly from the site to regulate heat and sound. Additional building features included radiant flooring for efficient heating and cooling and mechanical skylights that automatically adjust with the sun while integrated lighting controls maximize daylight and reduce energy use.
Outdoor spaces further enhanced the visitor experience with a reflecting pool, a granite labyrinth, ginkgo trees, and red cedar siding, all contributing to a serene, nature‑focused setting supported by BKF’s precise civil engineering and environmental design expertise.
