BKF Engineers provided comprehensive civil engineering services for The Clara, a major redevelopment project located in Santa Clara, California. Also known as the Tasman East – Phase 1, Block 3 redevelopment, The Clara transforms multiple parcels (four existing and three newly created) between Tasman Drive and Calle de Luna into a vibrant mixed-use community.
The Clara includes approximately 700 apartment units, 20,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and a dynamic urban plaza designed to encourage pedestrian activity and community engagement. Structured parking is integrated within multi-level garages to support the project’s high-density, transit-oriented design.
BKF Engineers’ scope of work encompassed all phases of civil engineering design and project delivery, including conceptual and schematic design, design development, and preparation of construction documents. Services included site grading, drainage design, utility connections, stormwater management, and public street improvements. The team prepared demolition and grading permit packages, building department submittals, and public street plans, working closely with project architects, landscape architects, and City of Santa Clara agencies to ensure seamless coordination.
Additional support included mapping, bidding assistance, and construction administration services such as site observation, submittal review, and project close-out documentation. Constructed in a single phase, The Clara was designed and delivered in full compliance with city, state, and federal regulations, including stormwater pollution prevention requirements.
Through its technical expertise and integrated project approach, BKF Engineers played a key role in realizing this project’s vision as a modern, sustainable, and connected urban destination within Santa Clara’s growing Tasman East district.
