Apple Data Center Expansion

Overview

BKF Engineers provided comprehensive civil engineering and land surveying services for the expansion of Apple’s data center operations in Elk Grove, California. The project focused on redeveloping a 3.1-acre site to support the development of a new Central Plant facility, designed to meet the growing infrastructure demands of Apple’s existing data center campus.

BKF led the site transformation, delivering a full suite of services from initial survey through construction support. The Central Plant was engineered to integrate seamlessly with Apple’s operational footprint, supporting high-performance cooling and power distribution systems essential to mission-critical operations.

Utility infrastructure design was a key component of BKF’s scope. Our team developed comprehensive plans for domestic and fire water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems. These systems were designed to accommodate the facility’s high-density IT loads while maintaining operational continuity. Stormwater management was addressed through a grading and paving plan that met C.3 discharge requirements, ensuring compliance with Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) standards and supporting long-term environmental performance.

BKF conducted a detailed topographic survey to support design development and permitting. During construction, our team provided staking services and coordinated closely with the contractor to avoid service disruptions to the active data center. This proactive approach ensured smooth field execution and alignment with Apple’s stringent operational standards.

This project highlights BKF’s expertise in delivering utility-intensive, high-performance infrastructure for leading technology clients. Our work in Elk Grove reflects a commitment to precision, sustainability, and seamless integration with existing mission-critical systems—hallmarks of Apple’s global data center strategy.
