BKF delivered full-service civil engineering and surveying support for the development of the NTT SV1 Data Center, an advanced, mission-critical facility located in the heart of Silicon Valley. Designed with cutting-edge infrastructure and seismic resilience, SV1 sets a new benchmark for operational excellence and collaborative innovation.
The four-story, 160,000-square-foot data center spans a 3.3-acre site and features 64,000 square feet of customizable data floor space, 16MW of critical IT load, and a dedicated onsite substation. The facility is equipped with an industry-leading Base Isolation System, ensuring exceptional seismic stability and uninterrupted performance.
BKF’s involvement began at the earliest planning stages and continued through final construction, ensuring seamless execution and quality throughout. Our team delivered topographic, ALTA, and boundary surveys, along with easement quitclaims and dedications to support site development and legal documentation. We developed comprehensive grading and drainage plans, utility layouts, and stormwater management strategies in full compliance with local and state regulations.
To streamline approvals and maintain project momentum, BKF Engineers played a pivotal role in managing coordination across a diverse group of regulatory and utility agencies. The SV1 Data Center project required engagement with the City of Santa Clara, Santa Clara Fire Department, Silicon Valley Power, the State Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB), and Southern Pacific Railroad—each with its own permitting processes, technical requirements, and review timelines. BKF facilitated these conversations by proactively aligning design documentation with agency expectations, anticipating regulatory challenges, and maintaining open lines of communication throughout the project lifecycle. Our team’s deep familiarity with local and state protocols enabled us to expedite approvals, resolve conflicts, and keep the project on track.
During construction, BKF continued to support field execution and compliance through regular site visits, submittal reviews, and timely responses to RFIs. We also provided Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) services and precise construction staking, ensuring that all work met regulatory standards and project specifications. This hands-on approach to agency coordination and construction administration was instrumental in delivering a resilient, high-performance data center in one of the most demanding tech markets in the world.
This project exemplifies BKF’s commitment to delivering resilient, high-performance infrastructure for data centers operating in one of the world’s most demanding tech markets.
