BKF provided civil engineering services for the Interstate 580 Westbound HOV Widening Project in Alameda County’s Tri‑Valley region, a major corridor improvement effort spanning 13 miles of highway and six bridge modifications. The project enhanced mobility and future capacity by widening the westbound lanes and preparing the corridor for upcoming express lane operations. BKF’s work supported the development of the Project Report, Environmental Impact Report, and two PS&E packages, while also preparing mandatory and advisory fact sheet exception reports.
The team performed utility mapping, conflict resolution, and coordination for necessary relocations, along with detailed stage‑construction plans and traffic detours to maintain mobility throughout construction. BKF also assisted in securing multi‑jurisdictional approvals and addressing environmentally sensitive areas and site constraints. Additional services included roadway rehabilitation analysis and planning for future express lane integration, contributing to a safer, more efficient, and future‑ready regional transportation corridor.
