Jonathan Tang spent his early childhood in Canada. His family later made a number of international relocations (including stints in Hong Kong and the US), before finally landing in Sacramento. As a child, Jonathan enjoyed tinkering with building blocks, as well as taking things apart and putting them back together. This interest eventually grew into a career in civil engineering. He attended the University of California, Davis, and joined the BKF team upon graduation in 2001.

Early on in Jonathan’s career he was given the opportunity to work with various teams within BKF; including the water resources group as well as the transportation team. These experiences gave him an appreciation for the breadth of the work civil engineering entails and they contributed greatly to his growth and evolution as a leader. Eventually he became rooted in the land development side of the business and now works in a variety of markets including civic (parks/recreation), commercial, multifamily residential, K-12 education and community college higher education, among others.

Jonathan finds it especially rewarding to work with teams of people who put in the hard work and come together to transform an idea into a successful project. He appreciates the challenges involved in the process from start to finish, and recognizes that it takes more than just one person to make that a reality. Jonathan is particularly appreciative of his talented staff at BKF who are incredibly hard working, dedicated and committed. In his words, “I take pride in my work, and I know they do, too.”

Over a decade ago, he met his wife at a wedding in Boston. He was there as a guest of the groom and she was a friend of bride. Their chance meeting resulted in wedding of their own and they now reside in Redwood Shores and have three school-aged children. Jonathan says that he strives to be involved in all of their activities, including soccer, which is one of his kids’ current favorites.
