After graduating from UC Davis in 1993 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Jaysen started his engineering career working on projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for an environmental engineering and construction firm located in Richmond, California. While the extensive field work provided a good and practical introduction to the construction world, he knew that design was what he wanted to do and decided to seek alternative employment.

In January of 1997, Jaysen accepted an offer for a Staff Engineer position with BKF Engineers in our Walnut Creek office, eventually becoming a Project Manager on a number of Bay Area project in the education, healthcare, commercial, residential, civic, and transportation market sectors.

When asked what is rewarding about his job, Jaysen said, “Every one of our projects is different and every one is a puzzle to be solved. I love that challenge.”

In January of 2006, Jaysen assisted BKF with geographic expansion by helping to start up a new office in Sacramento, California. BKF’s Sacramento group weathered the “Great Recession” and, with a focus on the overall success of each of its projects, continues to experience steady growth, mostly due to the numerous strong working relationships with the many designers, builders, and owners in the area.

Jaysen accepted a Principal position in 2013 and joined the Board of Directors at BKF in 2018. In January 2019, Jaysen was named Chief Operating Officer, assuming firmwide responsibility for facilities & operations, technology & innovation, design & delivery, and human resources across BKF’s 16 West Coast offices.

Regarding his new role, Jaysen has said, “BKF has always sought to be a trusted advisor to our clients and to provide an enjoyable place to work for our employees. To those ends, I am excited to work with our staff and leadership on operational improvements that will ensure our continued growth and success into the future.”
