Initially interested in construction as a youngster, Brian eventually pursued a civil engineering degree from UC Davis, and while on college breaks, worked for a general contractor and a land surveyor. He joined BKF immediately following graduation. Working in BKF’s Redwood City office, Brian now leads a group who work on a broad range of project types, and says his dedicated and talented staff are the ones who have made it easy for him to transition into a Principal position. “We have great project managers who I can trust to get the job done,” he said. “We have a great staff who want to work here and are engaged. Our successes are directly attributable to our people.”

He says another contributing factor to BKF’s success is the time spent in creating and maintaining lasting relationships with clients. “I really enjoy a client who appreciates what we do,” he said. “It’s very satisfying when a client supports you and makes you feel like you’re on the same team; moving forward in the same direction.”

Although San Francisco’s Parkmerced redevelopment project has been one of Brian’s favorites, he also recognizes that his early work, such as the little parking lot he passes by every day while driving to the office, was also important in the formation of his career. “I smile when I see that lot. It reminds me of how far I’ve come,” he said.
