BKF Engineers was retained by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) to provide preliminary and final design services for the construction of a new 4.5-mile segment of light rail track (LRT) within an existing rail corridor.

Project Unique Features:
- BKF’s role was the lead civil/track design consultant responsible for coordination over a multi-disciplinary design team involving over 16 consultants.
- BKF coordinated multi-jurisdictional reviews to expedite permit approval by San Jose, Campbell, Caltrans, VTA, PCJPB (Caltrain), UPRR and SCVWD.
- The accelerated nature of the design required the careful staging and logistical planning for temporary and permanent railroad relocation (Class I Freight Rail) through existing city street intersections.
