Civil engineering and surveying is technical and our clients depend on us to be highly trained and knowledgeable and to be able to apply that knowledge to practical solutions. Consequently, professional development is a big part of BKF’s long term business plan. We want each employee to reach his or her fullest potential. To support that goal we provide many training opportunities. Entry level engineers are trained extensively in the use of CAD computer programs. This forms a basis for their future growth and gets them off to a quick start in terms of contributing to their project team.

We also offer internal “Boot Camp” sessions which expand knowledge in our basic engineering and surveying tasks. Our “Boot Camp” classes include base sheet preparation, grading plans, utility plans hydraulics and hydrology design, surveying and mapping, construction administration and estimating, construction surveying, and consulting business basics. These classes help expand knowledge of the everyday tasks that go into most projects.

Project managers participate in classes for public speaking, business development and negotiating skills growth. Sometimes outside speakers are brought in or employees are sent to special seminars.
