Education Project Experience
Since 1954, BKF has provided award winning civil engineering, planning, and surveying services for hundreds of projects on the 8,800-acre Stanford University campus. During that time, the campus has seen great growth, and BKF has provided the utility infrastructure necessary to manage the growth and allow for new expansion in the future.
BKF provided civil engineering services for the AIA award-winning California State University (CSU) Northridge’s Student Recreation Center. The LEED Gold certified facility includes a weight training zone, volleyball courts, upper level jogging track, and basketball courts.
BKF was involved with the site improvements design for the LEED Gold Certified Joint-Use Facility at Community College of San Francisco's West Campus area. BKF's work included incremental design packages associated with grading, site preparation, and import of over 250,000 cubic yards of earth material to accommodate the future West Campus area development.
BKF provided civil design for the largest Design-build project in California which included the new Allied Health and Wellness Center, Student Center, and Central Utility Plant.
BKF provided civil engineering services for the 15-acre school site, including 5-acre temporary housing site for use during demolition and construction of the new storm water management plan which treats 100% of runoff from new impervious surfaces. BKF developed grading plans, utility plans, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
BKF provided civil design for the new LEED Platinum certified gymnasium. BKF was also involved with site improvements for a new Teen Wellness Center, a new parking area, and various ADA accessibility improvements throughout the school campus.
BKF Engineers provided land surveying services including aerial survey, survey control, topographic survey, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
BKF is part of the Design Build team constructing a new 120,000 sf 4-story Student Housing II Building near Desmond Hall along the American River. The new building will house approximately 350 beds, common study rooms, multi-purpose lounge, learning center, recreation space, and a free standing building containing a café.
The 334,000 SF apartment project is located at the corner of Big Springs Road and Valencia Hill Drive. BKF coordinated with various subconsultants and agencies in the construction of the village.
As part of an architecturally led design build team, BKF has provided the on-site and off-site civil design and surveying services for the new aquatics facility on an existing one-acre, University-owned surface parking lot.
BKF has been providing award winning civil engineering and surveying services on University of California (UC) Berkeley projects for over 20 years, including the Li Ka Shing Center, California Memorial Stadium, Hargrove Library, Stanley Hall Lab Replacement and Haas Sports Pavilion.
BKF was the civil engineer for the new USF academic LEED Gold building. The goal of the Center was to strengthen scientific preparation for all undergraduates and nurture the growing links between the sciences and our environment.
The Rancho Santiago Community College District selected BKF to perform district-wide land surveying and engineering services for various construction projects.
Site improvements for the UC Santa Cruz Physical Science Building involved sensitive design to preserve existing redwoods.
BKF provided civil engineering services for the Mills College renovation of the Natural Sciences Complex. Services included grading, drainage, storm, sewer, utility and fire water connection.
BKF prepared construction documents for the construction of a new administration building and four modular buildings, reconfiguration of the existing parking lots to improve circulation, addition of a new parking lot providing additional ADA stalls, and utilities to serve the proposed buildings. Services included topographic, utility, and boundary surveys, civil design of pavements, drainage, utilities, and erosion control, circulation analysis, earthwork calculations, and domestic water hydraulic calculations.
Construction of a 20,000 sq. ft. library and distant learning building on the Feather River College campus.
Using Nathan Oliveira’s art as a vehicle for personal renewal, the center’s main goal was to provide a break from the intensity of day-to-day life with the intention for quite reflection throughout the day. The thick rammed-earth walls, made from soil excavated directly from the site, help moderate heat and sound.
Civil improvements to approximately 3,000 linear feet of existing McLaughlin Drive in the center of the UC Santa Cruz campus increased safety and accessibility.
BKF provided civil engineering design services for site improvements including grading design and utility improvements for the $35 million UC Santa Cruz Digital Arts Research Center.
