Kevin Wong was born in Oakland and spent the early years of his childhood in Hayward, and later, Danville. His fascination with LEGO sets as a kid fueled his desire to one day become an engineer. He graduated from UC Davis in December 2003 and while he was unsuccessful at landing a BKF internship before donning his cap and gown, BKF was one of his top picks for a fulltime job and he jumped at the chance to work for our company when he was extended an offer in March 2004.

Kevin has had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects at BKF; including large lot subdivisions, public/private schools, streetscapes, single/multifamily homes and high rise/zero lot line buildings. He enjoys projects with grading challenges and where civil site/utility constraints dictate the site plan development. “I’ve always enjoyed grading design and I also like being involved early in the projects at site plan conception, assisting the architect/landscape architect with bringing their vision to life,” he said.

He especially likes working in BKF’s Oakland office because it’s small and intimate. “We can stand up and yell for assistance and everyone is there to help,” he said. Kevin and the staff also regularly spend lunch time together exploring Oakland’s culinary options, and have been known to ride scooters to Jack London Square or have an occasional ping pong tournament to blow off steam.

An engineer by day and avid photographer in his spare time, taking pictures became a favorite hobby of Kevin’s as a young adult. He has photographed a few BKF weddings, and also several projects for our company’s marketing portfolio. In addition, the aerial photos in BKF’s Oakland office were taken by Kevin from a helicopter. Most recently, he has found himself enjoying some time utilizing his drone and using it to supplement family vacation videos and capturing his children’s milestones. Kevin and his wife, Julia, live in Danville with daughter, Avery, and son, Cameron.
